Music Minister


Slickville Presbyterian Church is hiring for the position of Music Minister. The Music Minister will be a committed Christian who provides piano/organ music for scheduled worship services and other services. This is a year-round position with the expectation of attendance for Sunday worship services and other services (funerals, weddings), including but not limited to Christmas and Easter.  


The Music Minister will also be expected to develop the music ministry beyond just playing the piano or organ and will eventually be called on to develop a choir and add other special touches to the music ministry.  The ideal Music Minister will make the music ministry their own.  


Qualifications:    


The Music Minister will at a minimum be able to play the piano proficiently and be willing to learn how to play an electric church organ if not in the possession of that skill at the time of hire.  The Music Minister will display a professional level of musical talent from training and experience and have a thorough working knowledge of the congregation worship services and a theological understanding of church music.  The Music Minister must also be able to communicate well and in a friendly manner with the pastor and other members of the church.


Responsibilities of the Music Minister

  • Provide organ and piano music in a professional manner for all worship services and all seasonal and special services.

  • Provide organ and piano music for weddings and funerals (if asked) and permitted to accept compensation from the parties involved.  It should be noted that the organ and piano may be used by a guest musician when necessary.

  • Facilitate the congregation to sing and worship through the excellent execution of hymns and liturgy.

  • Encourage the musical talents and participation of members of the congregation.

  • Arrange for qualified substitute organist/pianist when absent for church services and notify the pastor and session in advance.

  • Ensure that the organ and piano are in good working condition and notify Session if maintenance is needed.

  • Assist in the selection of the hymns and provide weekly hymns for the bulletin by Wednesday prior to noon.

  • To faithfully practice in preparation for weekly worship services to maintain a high quality of music.

  • Playing must begin at least 5 minutes before the start of worship.


Compensation


The Music Minister will be accountable to the Church Session and work with the pastor.  This is a part-time or as needed position without benefits.  However, the Music Minister will be granted a weekly stipend in an amount determined by Session.
