History

Yesterday and Today

The Presbyterian Church group led by Mr. Mellinger and Mr. Bert Walters built our current building and it was dedicated on November 23, 1924.  Some of our original charter members were the Algiers, Askins, Eisamens, Halls, Hunts, Kraliks, McKees, Mellingers, Remaleys, Stines, Steeles, Stockbergers, and Walters families.  The Reverend Henry Nicklin from Congruity was our first pastor.  Our church was originally organized and conducted Sunday school by the pastor of Saltsburg Lutheran Church as a mission in Slickville.  Our church was organized on June 11, 1922 by committee composed of Dr. A.H. Jolly, Reverend O.S. Fowler, and elders J.J.S. Rugh and R.F. Schade.  Elected elders under the rotary system were Lloyd Van Dyke, A.L. Remaley, and Harry Stone.  Originally, forty-eight members were received and nine additional members were added in a few days, making a total of 57 known as the charter members.  Upon the transfer of the field to the Presbyterians on June 11, 1922, the Sunday school became a non-denominational school until the time our church was dedicated. - From the 2017 Slickville Centennial Program

In 2022 we celebrated our 100 year anniversary and we are a member church of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church Denomination and part of the Presbytery of the Alleghenies.  Like many churches today, and residing in a small community, we have had our fair share of good times and bad, and we have also seen our membership rise and fall.  The Coronavirus Pandemic has been especially hard on many churches, and during this point in our history, we find ourselves in a time of transition.  However, we believe we are in an exciting time, and we are currently seeking new members to become a part of what is happening in our church today.  If you are looking for a new church home, or just want to give us a try, we would love to have you join us!
